About

The Medical Accessories Support Trust (MAST) aims to support those living with medical accessories by promoting community, confidence and creativity.

Community MAST aims to build a body of knowledge and information about medical accessories made up of the personal contributions of individuals with first-hand experience. It hopes to define the terms of each accessory from the perspective of lived experience, and through this encourage openness and sharing among fellow ostomates, tubies and central liners and those who may be about to incorporate an accessory into their life. As MAST grows its aim will be to promote this live library as an essential addition to the clinical information available. MAST aims to encourage sharing, learning from one another, and creative problem solving across different accessories.

Confidence MAST aims to promote a sense of ownership over the accessories we live with and a positive body identity through incorporation with our sense of self. Whether through contact with others living with a medical accessory, naming a stoma, tube, central line or device, or decorating a medical accessory in a fun and unique way. MAST also aims to promote those with medical accessories as experts in their own health and accessory, and empower them to form partnerships with healthcare providers that place them at the centre of their care.

Creativity MAST was inspired by first-hand experience of living with multiple medical accessories and finding that the challenges of living with one type of accessory could often be met with creative solutions intended for another type. MAST aims to provide ideas and inspiration for the individuation and decoration of medical accessories.
